Your hosts

Thank you for your interest in the Maine Windjammers!

Owen's love of sailing began at a very young age and runs deep in his family. He spent his summers on Vinalhaven, an island in Penobscot Bay, where he worked for the local fishermen. He later joined the Maine Windjammer fleet, working in a variety of positions on most of the boats in the fleet—including mate on the Nathaniel Bowditch. He earned his captain's license in 1989. Capt. Owen later went on to teach sailing and to command several vessels from New Foundland to the West Indies, but has always come home to Maine.

Our first but certainly not last windjammer cruise. This trip far exceeded our expectations. Excellent weather, Capt. and crew made this trip outstanding. We loved the Nathaniel Bowditch and have a whole new respect for the wooden ships and people that sail them.  —Cathy A. North Carolina

Capt. Owen Dorr
Cathie grew up in upstate New York. She earned a degree in Occupational Therapy and later specialized in hand therapy. Her career led her to travel throughout the US as a traveling therapist and later to own a private practice hand therapy clinic. In 1998 her parents organized a family trip on a Maine Windjammer. This trip changed her life. It was on that trip that Owen and Cathie met. They have been together ever since, working toward their goal to own and operate their own Windjammer.

We are committed to continuing the traditional art of sailing this fine vessel in the manner in which she was intended. We look forward to sailing with you.

—Capt. Owen and Cathie Dorr

There is nothing finer than sailing with real sailors on a well found vessel. We thoroughly enjoyed the sailing and Paul's excellent cooking. Your crew is well chosen.
